Optus Campus Refurbishment at Macquarie Park

Woolacotts Consulting Engineers were recently engaged by FDC Construction and Fitout for the Optus Headquarters Campus Refurbishment at Macquarie Park. Our team provided Structural and Civil engineering services on this project which is due to be completed in late 2020.

The site at Macquarie Park is a self-contained state-of-the-art campus featuring six interconnected low-rise building which are set on seven hectares of landscapes grounds. The campus was built with their community in mind, with an emphasis on open-plan design, flexible working spaces and the inclusion of ‘town squares’ which act as focal points for business and social activity. The site includes hundreds of meeting rooms, dedicated training rooms, collaboration areas, amenities, shops and hospitality spaces.

As part of this project, various parts of the existing commercial facilities of the Optus Campus will be upgraded and transformed. This will ensure a continuation of success for the Business Park and a further integration of the precinct with its locality.

Our Structural and Civil scope of the redevelopment included the following:

  • A brand new visitor carpark link will be located at the existing steep natural ground with a new lift core connecting lower ground floor and upper ground steel framed walkway. A new steel framed roof with funky geometry and large cantilever ends will also be constructed over the site.
  • Conversion of existing carpark floor level to the new end of trip facilities with innovative underpinning strengthening details implemented.
  • New steel framed airlock facilities and tree awnings connected to existing building structures.
  • Upgrade of existing taxi layby and bus interchange areas.

Working collaboratively with FDC and our architects Fitzpatrick + Partners, our team have now successfully completed the design phase of the project. Buildability and aesthetics were factored into our detailed design, which will result in an ease of construction and a high-quality delivery of the completed works.
