Potts Hill Police Facility – Structural and Civil Remediation

Woolacotts was engaged by both Downer Group and Duratec Limited on behalf of NSW Police Force to address major building and pavement failures at the Potts Hill Police Facility, caused by hillside instability and localized landslip along the edge of the site.

Woolacotts assessed site conditions and delivered a coordinated remediation strategy to stabilize the hillside, secure affected buildings, and reinstate damaged pavement infrastructure.

Building Remediation

Building remediation included temporary stabilization followed by construction of a new cased pile and beam foundation system, extending through unstable, water-affected ground into competent material. The new foundation system re-supported settling building structures, restoring stability to the affected buildings.

Civil and Pavement Remediation

Civil remediation focused on improving marginal ground conditions through groundwater control, delivering a more efficient and economical outcome than deep foundation solutions. Groundwater control was achieved through a series of bored drainage installations within the hillside, allowing the slope to passively dewater during periods of elevated groundwater conditions, improving long-term slope stability. The failed permeable paver system was replaced with a new impervious pavement system, restoring durable surface performance.

Outcome

The integrated remediation works stabilized the hillside, secured critical building elements, and reinstated reliable pavement infrastructure, demonstrating Woolacotts’ expertise in delivering effective remedial engineering solutions for critical facilities.
