Role

Civil, Stormwater Engineer

The Brightwaters School Morisset project was initiated by Christian Education Ministries (CEM) to address the growing educational needs of the Morisset region. Located on Jamerin Way, the development introduces a new school site designed to provide modern facilities and safe access for students, staff, and the local community. Woolacotts was engaged to deliver comprehensive civil engineering services, including the design and documentation required for Development Application (DA) submission. Our scope of works included the preparation of a Stormwater Management Plan and associated report, incorporating on-site detention (OSD) and Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) principles, as well as an Erosion and Sediment Control Plan. We also designed external road upgrades for Jamerin Way extending to Freemans Drive and produced preliminary cut and fill plans for internal site works. These services ensured compliance with regulatory requirements while delivering practical, cost-effective solutions tailored to the school’s operational needs and future expansion.

One of the primary challenges was ensuring overland flow from upstream catchments did not cause flooding within the site. This required careful road design and innovative stormwater management strategies to maintain site safety and functionality.

Woolacotts introduced several innovative approaches to optimise performance and reduce costs. The implementation of OSD with a level spreader eliminated the need for expensive drainage easements and avoided extending the stormwater network to a nearby creek.
