North Fort Parking Area

North Fort is an ex-army base located at North Head, Sydney. The site contains many historical building and structures, which were part of the city’s Defenses. These include gun emplacements and World War II tunnels.

The Sydney Harbour Trust is responsible for preserving the area and creating opportunities for the existing buildings and site to be adapted and reused.  As part of this, the existing parking area required formalization and upgrading, to provide parking for visitors to the site, while improving the general aesthetics of the area.

Woolacotts Consulting Engineer was responsible for the design and project management of the project, from obtaining the survey, through design of the parking area to construction. This process required consideration of the heritage aspects of the site, to ensure that significant items were maintained and not damaged.  This continued during construction, where the impact of construction plant on underground tunnels needed to be addressed.
